ELECTRICAL ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT BOARD DECISION:
August 21, 2019
The implementation of the PhD Qualification/Comprehensive exam, which is explained in Article 19 of our University's Postgraduate Education and Training Regulation, will be as follows:
-- The exact dates of the exams specified in the regulation to be held in April-May and November-December are determined by the PhD Qualification Committee.
-- The Qualification/Comprehenesive exam consists of two parts: written exam and oral exam.
1. Written Exam
The written exam will be held in two sessions on the same day. The times of the sessions will be announced on the Department website.
a) The First Session: 4 questions from the basic Electrical-Electronics Engineering topics specified below will be answered. Each question is worth 100 points.
- Engineering Mathematics (Linear Algebra, complex numbers, differential equations)
- Circuit Analysis
- Digital Systems/Logic Circuits
- Signals and Systems
- Programming
b) Second Session: It will consist of 4 questions determined by the Doctoral Qualification Exam Jury, which is formed separately for each student. These questions will be selected from the graduate courses that the student has taken in his/her field.
c) The percentage of grades for both sessions will be equal. The student who is successful in the written exam by getting at least 70 points out of 100 points on the average will be admitted to the oral exam. The arithmetic average of the written and oral exams must be at least 75 points out of 100 points.
2. Oral Exam (To be conducted separately for each candidate.)
Doctoral Qualification Exam Jury, which will be formed by the Department Doctoral Qualification Committee, will ask questions in the candidate's field of interest in order to determine whether the candidate has the knowledge for the research he/she intends to conduct. Questions may also be asked from the written exam topics.
-- The Doctoral Qualification Committee decides on matters not specified here within the framework of current regulations.
Exam Date:
The Doctoral Qualification Exam date is held towards the last weeks of the relevant semester. The exam date is announced on the department announcements page.
